The design of Hotel Renegade, a boutique hotel in Boise, Idaho, aimed to strike a balance between rustic charm and refined elegance. Located at 1110 W. Grove Street, the hotel needed a window system that would honor historic architectural details while meeting modern performance standards. BVB Architectural Muntins, also known as BAM, were selected to deliver this look with surface-applied, fully fabricated muntin systems engineered for both durability and visual impact.
Design Goals: Historic Renovation with Custom Glazing Solutions
In keeping with the “where rustic meets refined” vision, the project required custom muntin profiles that could simulate true divided lites without the associated costs or complications. Other componentized muntin systems in the market wouldn’t meet the design’s durability needs, and true divided lites were outside budget constraints. BAM’s snap-in and tape-on systems provided the flexibility and longevity the project demanded.
Solution: Snap-In & Tape-On Muntin Grids by BVB Products
To achieve the desired façade, two muntin systems were used across different sections of the hotel’s glazing:
System 1: Snap-In
Perimeter: BAM-22
Muntin: BAM-04
System 2: Tape-On
Perimeter: BAM-31
Muntin: BAM-04
Both were finished in black anodized aluminum, creating a sharp, architectural appearance with the durability required for a commercial setting.
Installation Insights: Designed with Glaziers in Mind
The systems were installed by D&A Glass, who appreciated how BVB’s fully assembled tape-on and snap-in muntin grids sped up installation. Traditional stick-by-stick tape-on methods, where muntins are applied one piece at a time, require careful alignment and are time-consuming. As with all of BVB's systems, the muntin grids were completely factory fabricated to avoid the concerns of independent component installation.
The BVB snap-in system utilized a proprietary clip fastened at the jambs that allowed the fabricated frames to quickly and easily mechanically fasten to the aluminum glazing system. Like the snap-in, the tape-on muntin system was supplied fully fabricated and used in certain applications where there was not sufficient glazing system depth to accommodate fastening at the perimeter. The tape-on muntin grids were taped, as a unit, to the glass substrate.
Why Glaziers and Architects Trust Bacon's Architectural Muntins for Commercial Projects
BAM’s systems offer significant advantages for glazing contractors and project owners alike:
Faster install times thanks to pre-assembled grid systems
Lower costs compared to true divided lites or field-assembled alternatives
Superior longevity, no muntins falling off after exposure
Flexible compatibility with curtainwall and aluminum storefront systems
Architectural accuracy to match historic design standards
