When Western Kentucky University’s Grise Hall was marked for retirement, plans
began for a new, innovative building to house the College of Business. Designs for
Chandler Hall included muntins to enhance aesthetics and blend well with other design
features. Alexander Metals turned to BVB Architectural Muntins, also known as BAM,
to deliver this look.
Design Goals: Large Projects with Custom Glazing Solutions
This university building called for muntins to be applied at the exterior and interior of
292 openings over the span of 3 stories. Most of these openings ranged from 8-12 feet
tall. It was crucial for muntin application to be uniform so that the buildings overall
appearance was cohesive. BVB’s factory assembled BAM grids ensured consistency.
Solution: Snap-In and Tape-On Muntin Grids by BVB Products
For secure attachment and integration with storefront systems a snap-in muntin
installation was selected, while door systems utilized a tape-on muntin installation:
System: Screw-In
Perimeter: BAM-22
Muntin: BAM-01
System: Tape-On
Perimeter: BAM-25
Muntin: BAM-09
The finish was a custom colonial white to tie-in with the stone column focal point.

Installation Insights: Designed with Glaziers in Mind
The system was installed by Alexander Metals, who appreciated how BVB’s fully
assembled snap-in muntin grids eliminated the need for precise muntin placement in
the field. Traditional stick-by-stick tape-on methods, where muntins are applied one
piece at a time, require careful alignment and are time-consuming. As with all of BVB’s
systems, the muntin grids were completely factory fabricated to avoid the concerns of
independent component installation.
The BVB snap-in system utilized a perimeter profile that uses an extended leg that
blends with the storefront framing, creating a space to for the concealed fastener to
hold the muntin grid for seamless integration into the glazing system without the hassle
of applying tape.
Why Glaziers and Architects Trust BVB Architectural Muntins for Commercial Projects
BAM’s systems offer significant advantages for glazing contractors and project owners alike:
Faster install times thanks to pre-assembled grid systems
Lower costs compared to true divided lites or field-assembled alternatives
Superior longevity, no muntins falling off after exposure
Flexible compatibility with curtainwall and aluminum storefront systems
Architectural accuracy to match historic design standards
